Gilbert Vincent Perkins (24 August 1907 – 28 March 1999) was an Australian film and television actor. A champion athlete and trackman in his native northern Australia, Gil Perkins always wanted to get into films; as a teenager he virtually ran away from home, taking a job as a deck hand on a Norwegian freighter. He eventually landed in Hollywood in the late '20s, during the era of part-silent, part-talkie movies, and (because his accent was mistaken for English) he played young Englishmen in some of his first films. He soon drifted into stuntwork, regularly doubling cowboy star William Boyd and putting a red toupee over his own blond hair to double 'Red Skelton', among others. Some of his most notable stunt jobs were in the sci-fi/horror field. Il commence ses études supérieures à l'École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts, puis fait ses classes au Conservatoire de Paris après un passage à La Roulotte, une compagnie dirigée par André Clavé. Il sort du Conservatoire avec le premier prix, puis entre à la Comédie-Française en 1942 pour jouer des rôles de jeune premier. Il y rencontre Jean-Louis Barrault qui y met en scène de nombreuses pièces (Phèdre, Le Soulier de satin…). Il rejoint Barrault qui fonde sa compagnie en 1946 avec Madeleine Renaud. Dans cette troupe, installée au Théâtre Marigny, il va connaître une vie professionnelle et privée très riche. Il y retrouve surtout Simone Valère avec qui il avait joué en 1943 dans Le Voyageur de la Toussaint de Louis Daquin. Ce fut pour eux, dix années de succès, lors desquelles ils jouent dans Les Fausses Confidences, Intermezzo, Occupe-toi d'Amélie, La Cerisaie…, il connut aussi quelques échecs comme Bérénice et Le Songe d'une nuit d'été.
