L'histoire commence peu de temps avant la mort d'Inu-No-Taishô, le père de Sesshomaru et d'InuYasha. On apprend que ce puissant démon possédait trois armes : Tessaiga (qui donne la mort et léguée à InuYasha), Tenseiga (qui redonne la vie et léguée à Sesshomaru) et enfin Sou'unga. Cette dernière a été scellée, car il s'agit d'une épée maléfique et difficile à dompter. Mais le sceau se brise, se réveille alors la volonté de l'épée qui entreprend de détruire le monde en ouvrant les Portes de l'Enfer.
