Jennifer et Kevin sont inséparables depuis leur enfance. Lorsqu'elle achète une maison après ses études d'architecture, Jennifer offre à Kevin de l'héberger. 7 ans plus tard, ils cohabitent toujours ensemble. La situation se complique quand Jennifer accepte la demande en mariage de Bryce, son collègue. Elle ignore que ce dernier, volage et ambitieux, ne se marie que pour promouvoir sa carrière. Croisant Bryce en charmante compagnie, Kevin comprend tout et tente d'empêcher le mariage en se servant d'une loi instituant comme « couple officiel » toutes personnes ayant cohabité durant 7 ans.
