His first role was in an episode of Mayberry R.F.D., a continuation of the Andy Griffith Show. He is best known for his role as Rabbit in The New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. He would later be replaced by Tom Kenny in the upcoming film. In an interview broadcasted on ABC 4, when asked about not voicing Rabbit in the upcoming Winnie the Pooh film, he stated "I'm not sure", although he claims he's still under contract. Raphaël Hamburger est le fils du compositeur Michel Berger et de la chanteuse France Gall, le petit-fils du néphrologue Jean Hamburger, de la pianiste concertiste Annette Haas et du chansonnier Robert Gall. Son arrière-grand-père, Paul Berthier est le fondateur de la Manécanterie des Petits Chanteurs à la croix de bois, avec Fernand Maillet. Son enfance est marquée par la mort de son père Michel Berger en 1992, alors qu'il n'a que 11 ans, puis cinq ans plus tard de la mort de sa sœur Pauline des suites de la mucoviscidose, alors âgée de 19 ans. En 2016, il produit l'ambiance musicale du Ritz Bar et rachète les anciens Studios Acousti, rebaptisés Les Studios Saint-Germain, gérés par Élodie Filleul. En 2018, 37 chanteuses (Brigitte, Mayra Andrade, Anaïs Croze, Clara Luciani, Sandra Nkaké, Elisa Tovati, Agnès Jaoui, Olivia Ruiz, La Grande Sophie, Superbus, Elodie Frégé, Inna Modja, Mai Lan et Julie Zenatti) y enregistrent une nouvelle version de l'Hymne du MLF (Mouvement de Libération des Femmes). En 2019, pour le premier anniversaire de la mort de sa mère, Matthieu Chedid lui dédie la chanson, Un autre paradis, qui apparait sur l'album Lettre infinie. Le 6 octobre 2020, il aurait dû produire l'opéra-rock Starmania à la Seine Musicale de Boulogne-Billancourt, évènement qui a été reporté en 2021 puis en 2022 à cause de la crise sanitaire due au COVID19. Il a eu une liaison avec l'actrice et chanteuse Cécile Cassel.

He attended UCLA, where he received his Bachelors in Film. Lafia's first film was The Blue Iguana, which he wrote and directed. It was also screened out of competition at the 1988 Cannes Film Festival. He later went on to co-write the screenplay for 1988's Child's Play and direct Child's Play 2 (1990), as well as both writing and directing 1993's Man's Best Friend. In recent years he has transitioned to television, first directing a number of Babylon 5 episodes. He has also written and directed the NBC miniseries 10.5 and its sequel 10.5: Apocalypse.
