Boyce lived in the Los Angeles area with his mother, father, younger sister and dog, Cienna. He was an accomplished dancer and his favorite style of dance was break-dancing.  Along with his four friends, he was a member of the breakdancing crew "X Mob" On July 6, 2019, Boyce died in his sleep at his home in Los Angeles, "due to a seizure which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated", according to a family statement. He was 20 years old.

Déjà avec Deux Anglaises et le Continent, mais surtout avec La Maman et la Putain de Jean Eustache, scandale et échec cuisant de 1973. Le décès de François Truffaut survenu en 1984 semble marquer la fin d'une époque pour Jean-Pierre Léaud, symbolisée par sa dernière collaboration avec Jean-Luc Godard dans Détective en 1985. Il continue à se mettre en danger en tournant pour des auteurs tels que Benoît Jacquot (1985, Corps et Biens) ou encore Catherine Breillat (1986, 36 fillette), mais s'essaie malgré tout à la comédie populaire dans Les Keufs de Josiane Balasko (1987). Depuis 1990 et le film J'ai engagé un tueur d'Aki Kaurismaki, le comédien recouvre une certaine aura grâce à des rôles mieux pensés qui le débarrassent de son encombrante enveloppe d'Antoine Doinel. Il tourne entre autres Paris s'éveille (1991, Olivier Assayas), Pour rire! (1997, Lucas Belvaux), Le Pornographe (2001, Bertrand Bonello) et J'ai vu tuer Ben Barka (2005, Serge Le Peron), des choix s'orientant vers un cinéma d'auteur engagé voire polémique.
