Maurice Barrier est un acteur et chanteur français né le 8 juin 1932 à Malicorne-sur-Sarthe (Sarthe) et mort le 12 avril 2020 à Montbard (Côte-d'Or). Fils d'un ébéniste, Maurice-Jean-Étienne Barrier commence à travailler dans l'atelier de son père. Alors qu'il se trouve à Rennes, âgé de 28 ans, il rencontre des pensionnaires de la Comédie de l'Ouest et fait ses débuts sur scène dans Caligula d'Albert Camus. Il interprète l'un de ses premiers rôles marquants à la télévision dans La Prise de pouvoir par Louis XIV de Roberto Rossellini en 1966. Par la suite, il incarne notamment Paul Gauguin dans une série consacrée au peintre, réalisée par Roger Pigaut en 1975, et Joseph Staline dans le téléfilm Staline-Trotsky: Le Pouvoir et la Révolution d'Yves Ciampi en 1979. Fameux «second couteau» du cinéma français, notamment dans Le Grand Blond avec une chaussure noire, Deux Hommes dans la ville, Flic Story, La Victoire en chantant, Coup de tête ou Le Retour de Martin Guerre, il joue entre autres aux côtés de Jean-Paul Belmondo, Jean Gabin, Alain Delon, Pierre Richard, Gérard Depardieu et Gérard Jugnot. Après avoir enchaîné grosses productions et films d'auteur comme Rue du départ dans les années 1980, il se fait depuis plus rare au cinéma. En 1980, il crée le rôle de Jean Valjean dans la comédie musicale d'Alain Boublil et Claude-Michel Schönberg, Les Misérables. En 1984, il incarne Jean-Édouard Vialhe, un des rôles principaux de la mini-série télévisée Des grives aux loups, saga familiale retraçant sur plus d'un-demi-siècle l'impact des guerres et l'arrivée du modernisme dans la campagne corrézienne. Résidant depuis 1962 à Montréal dans l'Yonne, Maurice Barrier meurt le 12 avril 2020 à l'hôpital de Montbard (Côte-d'Or), à l'âge de 87 ans, des suites de la covid 19. Marié à la comédienne Hélène Manesse, Maurice Barrier est le beau-frère du peintre Claude Manesse et du comédien Philippe Manesse. Pat Laffan was an Irish actor best known for his roles as Georgie Burgess in The Snapper and the milkman Pat Mustard in the Father Ted episode Speed 3. Laffan grew up on a farm in Co. Meath and began his career as an actor after graduating from Engineering in UCD. A prolific theatre actor, Laffan was a member of the Abbey Theatre Company in the 1960s and 1970s, and was the Director of the Peacock Theatre for most of the 1970s. He directed in the Gate Theatre from 1979 to 1982. Laffan had around 40 film credits to his name - including turns in Steven Spielberg's War Horse (2011), Intermission (2003), The General (1998) and Leap Year (2010) - and 30 credits on TV, Moone Boy, EastEnders and Ripper Street, to name a few. He died on March 14th, 2019 at the age of 79.
