Gus Green Van Sant, Jr. (born July 24, 1952) is an American director, screenwriter, painter, photographer, musician, and author. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Achievement in Directing for his 1997 film Good Will Hunting and his 2008 film Milk, and won the Palme d'Or at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival for his film Elephant. He lives in Portland, Oregon. His early career was devoted to directing television commercials in the Pacific Northwest. In his films, he has dealt with themes concerning homosexuality and other marginalized subcultures. His filmography as writer and director includes an adaptation of Tom Robbins' novel Even Cowgirls Get the Blues, which features a diverse cast (Keanu Reeves, Roseanne Barr, Uma Thurman, and k.d. lang, with cameos by William S. Burroughs and Heather Graham, among others); and My Own Private Idaho, also starring Reeves as well as River Phoenix. He wrote the screenplays for most of his early movies, and wrote one novel, Pink. A book of his photography has also been published, called 108 Portraits.

Parallèlement à ses études secondaires, Doug Liman suit les cours de l'International Center of Photography, puis entre à la Brown University de Providence (Rhode Island), où il collabore à la création d'une station de télévision à péage. Réalisateur de courts métrages dès l'âge de sept ans, il poursuit cette activité au lycée avant de s'inscrire à l'École de Cinéma et de Télévision de l'USC. C'est là qu'il signe en 1994 son premier long métrage : la comédie à suspense Getting in, interprétée par Stephen Mailer, Matthew Perry, Andrew McCarthy et Christine Baranski. Doug Liman connaît son premier succès critique en 1996 avec Swingers, qu'il produit et réalise. Cette comédie, qui réunit notamment les comédiens Jon Favreau et Vince Vaughn, évoque les aventures de quatre dragueurs à la recherche du grand amour dans les bars rétro de Los Angeles. Ben-Victor was born Paul Friedman, in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Leah Kornfeld, a playwright, and Victor Friedman. Ben-Victor debuted on the small screen in 1987 in the made-for-TV movie Blood Vows: The Story of a Mafia Wife and on an episode of Cagney & Lacey. Fifteen years after beginning his television career with bit parts, Ben-Victor found himself cast in important roles on HBO dramas The Wire and Entourage, as well as making a 2006 appearance as Coach Lou on My Name is Earl. He portrayed Moe Howard in the 2000 made-for-TV film The Three Stooges. Ben-Victor has been featured on many television cop dramas like Monk and CSI, and also had a recurring role as two-bit con man Steve Richards on three episodes of NYPD Blue from 1994 to 1997. Ben-Victor has co-written stage plays with his mother. At least two of their plays have been staged in the Manhattan area, including "Club Soda" and "The Good Steno".
