Ayant abandonné ses études à l'âge de quinze ans, Frédéric Diefenthal travaille comme apprenti dans l'hôtellerie puis devient coiffeur. Il s'oriente bientôt vers la comédie et s'inscrit au cours de théâtre Viriot. Dès 1990, il se fait remarquer à la télévision en jouant dans des spots publicitaires, et en apparaissant dans des séries (Salut les copains, Goal). Parallèlement, le réalisateur Henri-Paul Korchia lui propose d'incarner le personnage principal dans son court-métrage intitulé Max le voyou. Au cinéma, Frédéric Diefenthal enchaîne les petits rôles : il incarne un voyou dans La Totale (1991) de Claude Zidi ou encore l'ex-compagnon de Valeria Bruni Tedeschi dans Les Gens normaux n'ont rien d'exceptionnel (1993) de Laurence Ferreira Barbosa. Il tient son premier grand rôle dans Douce France (1995) de Malik Chibane, mais ce film passe totalement inaperçu. C'est à partir de 1993 que Frédéric Diefenthal connaît la consécration en interprétant pendant six ans un jeune flic protecteur et amoureux transi dans la série télé Le Juge est une femme. Mais il doit attendre 1998 pour obtenir la reconnaissance. Cette année-là, il forme avec Samy Naceri un duo de choc dans Taxi de Gérard Pirès. Ce film riche en poursuites de voitures est un véritable carton et fait l'objet de deux suites réalisées par Gérard Krawczyk, l'une en 2000 (Taxi 2) et l'autre en 2002 (Taxi 3). Propulsé au rang de star et nommé au César du Meilleur Espoir masculin en 1998 pour Taxi, Frédéric Diefenthal décide d'alterner les genres cinématographiques, cherchant à ne pas rester cantonné dans les mêmes rôles. Je veux tout (1999) de Guila Braoudé lui permet de faire une incursion dans le domaine de la comédie familiale, le thriller Six-Pack (2000) d'Alain Berberian lui donne l'occasion de traquer un tueur en série, tandis que Jeu de cons (2001) de Jean-Michel Verner lui offre la possibilité d'incarner un malfrat un peu gauche. Par ailleurs, Frédéric Diefenthal figure aussi bien au générique de grosses productions françaises, telles que Belphégor, le fantôme du Louvre (id.) de Jean-Paul Salomé, que de films d'auteur plus intimistes, comme Les Ames fortes (id.) de Raoul Ruiz. En 2003, il enquête sur les meurtres commis par une tueuse schizophrène (Sylvie Testud) dans le thriller psychologique Dédales, puis retourne à la comédie en devenant l'hôte malgré lui de Titoff dans L'Incruste, fallait pas le laisser entrer ! Malheureusement, le succès se fait plus rare, et Frédéric Diefenthal décide de se consacrer davantage au théâtre avec la pièce d'Oscar Wilde L'Importance d'être constant et à la télévision avec les séries Clara Sheller et David Nolande, dont il est le héros. Son retour sur grand écran s'effectue en 2007 avec le quatrième volet de la saga Taxi, que met une fois de plus en scène Gérard Krawczyk.

Joseph Evans Brown (July 28, 1891 – July 6, 1973) was an American actor and comedian, remembered for his amiable screen persona, comic timing, and enormous smile. In 1902 at the age of nine, he joined a troupe of circus tumblers known as the Five Marvelous Ashtons which toured the country on both the circus and vaudeville circuits. Later he became a professional baseball player. After three seasons he returned to the circus, then went into Vaudeville and finally starred on Broadway. He gradually added comedy into his act and transformed himself into a comedian. He moved to Broadway in the 1920s first appearing in the musical comedy Jim Jam Jems. From an early age Madeleine has shown a flair for the arts, performing in front of family and friends at any given opportunity.
