Helene Bertha Amalie "Leni" Riefenstahl (22 August 1902 – 8 September 2003) was a German film director, actress and dancer widely noted for her aesthetics and innovations as a filmmaker. Her most famous film was Triumph des Willens (Triumph of the Will), made at the 1934 Nuremberg congress of the Nazi Party. Riefenstahl's prominence in the Third Reich along with her personal friendship with Adolf Hitler thwarted her film career following Germany's defeat in World War II, after which she was arrested but released without any charges. Triumph of the Will gave Riefenstahl instant and lasting international fame, as well as infamy. Although she directed only eight films, just two of which received significant coverage outside of Germany, Riefenstahl was widely known all her life. The propaganda value of her films made during the 1930s repels most modern commentators but many film histories cite the aesthetics as outstanding. The Economist wrote that Triumph of the Will "sealed her reputation as the greatest female filmmaker of the 20th century". In the 1970s Riefenstahl published her still photography of the Nuba tribes in Sudan in several books such as The Last of the Nuba. She was active up until her death and also published marine life stills and released the marine-based film Impressionen unter Wasser in 2002. After her death, the Associated Press described Riefenstahl as an "acclaimed pioneer of film and photographic techniques". He is mostly known for his work on The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles as well as the Star Wars Special Editions and Prequel Trilogy. Ivry Gitlis est un violoniste franco-israélien, né le 25 août 1922 à Haïfa (alors en Palestine mandataire) et mort le 24 décembre 2020 à Paris. Il était ambassadeur honoraire de l'Unesco (1990). Originaires de Kamenets-Podolski, aujourd’hui en Ukraine, les parents d’Ivry Gitlis se rencontrent lors de leur départ pour la Palestine mandataire, où il naît à Haïfa en 1922. Un grand-père chantre de synagogue, un père modeste artisan puis meunier, pas de pression familiale sur ce fils unique: c’est le jeune Ivry qui réclame un violon à l’âge de quatre ans. Son entourage se cotise pour lui offrir l’instrument et les premières leçons. Les progrès sont fulgurants. Il donne son premier concert à sept ans. Ses dons musicaux sont vite remarqués par l’influent Bronislaw Huberman (fondateur de l’orchestre de Palestine) qui encourage l’enfant prodige à travailler en Europe. À Londres, à l’approche de la guerre, période agitée pour le jeune violoniste, il connaît ses premiers succès devant l’armée britannique tout en se portant volontaire pour travailler dans une usine de munitions. Après la guerre, il fait ses débuts avec l’orchestre philharmonique de Londres et enregistre pour la BBC radio. Puis, au début des années 1950, c’est la découverte des États-Unis et la rencontre avec Jascha Heifetz et le grand pédagogue Théodore Paskus. En 1955, il rentre dans «l’écurie» du plus grand imprésario de l’époque, Sol Hurok, qui fera d’Ivry un symbole, le premier violoniste israélien à aller jouer en URSS. Parallèlement, plusieurs tournées ont lieu à travers les États-Unis avec des chefs comme Eugene Ormandy et George Szell. Viennent ensuite les premiers enregistrements pour relayer les concerts. Ses interprétations des grands concertos du XXe siècle, comme Alban Berg, Igor Stravinsky, Jean Sibelius, Béla Bartók, sont saluées par les plus hautes récompenses en France comme aux États-Unis. Dans les années 1960, c’est le retour à Paris, où Gitlis réside le plus régulièrement entre deux tournées. Il devient un des interprètes les plus demandés de la scène classique internationale et donne des concerts avec les plus grands orchestres. Ses disques d’anthologie, des grandes œuvres de virtuosité du répertoire, sont des succès populaires. Ses apparitions sur les chaînes de télévision sont nombreuses, et il contribue ainsi largement à populariser la musique classique auprès du grand public. En 1974, il accompagne au violon Barbara à son piano dans «Une petite cantate», et qu'il a invitée pour son émission «Top à…» des Maritie et Gilbert Carpentier. Il joue notamment la gavotte de la Partita pour violon seul no 3 de Bach. Geoffrey Horne is an American actor and acting teacher known for his work in both film and theatre. Born on August 22, 1933, in New York City, Horne grew up in a family of artists, with his mother being a ballet dancer and his father being a painter. Horne developed an interest in acting at a young age and began taking classes at the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre in New York City. He made his Broadway debut in 1952 in the play "The Happiest Millionaire" and soon after was discovered by director Elia Kazan, who cast him in the film "The Bridge on the River Kwai" (1957). Horne's performance in "The Bridge on the River Kwai" earned him critical acclaim and led to more film roles, including "Bonjour Tristesse" (1958) and "Two Living, One Dead" (1961). In the 1960s, Horne moved to Italy and began working in Italian cinema, appearing in films such as "Il Posto" (1961) and "La lunga notte del '43" (1960). He also studied with the legendary acting teacher Lee Strasberg and later became an acting teacher himself, founding the HB Studio in Rome. Horne continued to work in both film and theatre throughout his career, and in 2007 he was honored with a lifetime achievement award by the Rome Film Fest.
