Fernand Sardou est un chanteur et un acteur français, né le 18 septembre 1910 à Avignon et mort le 31 janvier 1976 à Toulon. Il est le père du chanteur Michel Sardou, et le grand-père du romancier Romain Sardou et du comédien Davy Sardou. Fernand Sardou naît le 18 septembre 1910 dans la gare d'Avignon-Centre. Son père Valentin Sardou et sa mère Joséphine Plantin (dite Sardounette) se produisaient avec le chanteur de café-concert Félix Mayol. Fernand Sardou n'était pas un brillant écolier et il est atteint très vite par le virus de la chanson. Après avoir été livreur de lait et manœuvre dans une entreprise de jardinage, il fait ses premières armes dans de petites salles de concerts, alors que ses parents sont partis au Maroc tenter leur chance. Il rejoindra finalement ses parents au Maroc, sur les recommandations de sa grand-mère, cette dernière trouvant qu'il tourne mal. Il fait son service militaire à Casablanca, puis part en tournée au Brésil. À la mort de ses parents en 1933, il quittera définitivement le Maroc, et rejoindra Paris. Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, il part pour la Provence où il se produira avec les tournées Audiffred et connaîtra quelques succès. Il se liera d'amitié avec le prince Rainier III. En 1946, Fernand Sardou connaît son premier grand succès à l'Alhambra à Paris, en vedette américaine d'Édith Piaf avec sa chanson Aujourd'hui peut-être. Devenu populaire, il est l'acteur-chanteur méridional préféré des français. En 1955, il fait un triomphe dans Méditerranée avec Tino Rossi. C'est ensuite une succession de spectacles, opérettes, puis l'aventure du cabaret Chez Fernand Sardou, rue Lepic à Paris, où son fils Michel travaille comme serveur. Fernand Sardou joue notamment dans des films de Marcel Pagnol, Henri Verneuil, Jean Renoir, etc., et dans un épisode des Cinq Dernières Minutes («Un poing final» en 1960, avec Raymond Souplex). Le 7 juillet 1945, à la mairie du 18e arrondissement de Paris, il épouse Jacqueline Labbé (Jackie Rollin, dite Jackie Sardou). En 1947, naît leur fils Michel Sardou. Jackie Sardou a brièvement mentionné, par exemple lors de ses participations aux Grosses Têtes, qu'il avait eu des aventures extra-conjugales. Il meurt d'une crise cardiaque survenue dans les coulisses du théâtre municipal de Toulon où il répétait L'Auberge du Cheval-Blanc. Il avait participé le jour même à l'émission Midi Première de Danièle Gilbert, diffusée en direct de Mougins. Fernand Sardou est inhumé dans le cimetière nouveau de Neuilly-sur-Seine où son épouse Jackie Sardou l'a rejoint en 1998. After his three shorts Mounir et Anita, Generation Cutter, and Concours de circonstance, he directed his first long feature Virgil in 2005 about the life of a boxer, followed by a comedy entitled Stand Up!. His 2008 movie entitled JCVD about Jean-Claude Van Damme and featuring him as the actor garnered Mabrouk El Mechri critical acclaim. The film, a comedy drama and at certain times biographical of Van Damme was screened at the Cannes Film Festival, 2008 Rome Film Festival (L'Altro Cinema), and the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival (Midnight Madness).
