Guy Ritchie est un producteur, réalisateur et scénariste britannique né le 10 septembre 1968 à Hatfield dans le Hertfordshire (Royaume-Uni). Après avoir abandonné l'école alors qu'il n'avait que quinze ans, Guy Ritchie décide assez tôt de devenir réalisateur. Il s'illustre tout d'abord en tournant de nombreux clips et spots publicitaires, puis met en scène un premier court métrage, le polar The Hard Case (1995), qui donne le ton de sa future carrière. Trois ans plus tard, il passe au long et réussit son galop d'essai avec Arnaques, crimes et botanique (1998), un film de gangsters qui le propulse sous les feux de la rampe. Impressionné par le ton et le rythme de ce long métrage, Brad Pitt accepte de réduire son cachet pour figurer au casting de son deuxième film, du même acabit que le premier, le survolté Snatch (2000). Le grand public le connaît peut être davantage pour être le compagnon de Madonna, qu'il épouse le 22 décembre 2000 et dont il aura un enfant prénommé Rocco John. C'est donc tout naturellement qu'il la dirige dans A la dérive (2001), remake américain de la comédie romantique italienne Travolti da un insolito destino nell'azzuro mare d'Agosto. Mais le film se solde par un échec, tant critique que commercial. Le cinéaste, se voyant proposer de nombreux projets dont une adaptation du roman Gotcha, un film sur les chevaliers de l'Ordre de Malte ou encore le thriller Six shooters, décide alors de revenir à ses premières amours, le film d'arnaque, dont il s'est fait la spécialité, en dirigeant son acteur fétiche Jason Statham dans Revolver (2005), une œuvre produite par Luc Besson. Il revient en 2008 avec Rock'NRolla, un autre film dans cette même veine, mené par Gerard Butler. En 2010, Guy Ritchie laisse de côté les arnaques pour s'attaquer à une véritable institution anglaise : Sherlock Holmes, dont il nous offre une relecture "survitaminée", emmenée par Robert Downey Jr. dans le rôle titre et Jude Law dans celui de son fidèle Watson. Deux ans plus tard, il remet ça en signant un deuxième opus, intitulé Sherlock Holmes 2 : Jeu d'ombres, en compagnie des mêmes acteurs principaux. Par la suite, il réalise un clip publicitaire pour Dior dans lequel il retrouve Jude Law, puis un autre pour la sortie du nouveau jeu vidéo Call of Duty avec notamment Omar Sy et Robert Downey Jr. Après quoi, il revient sur les plateaux de cinéma en reprenant un projet de longue date de la Warner que Steven Soderbergh devait initialement mettre en scène avant de se retirer. Il s'agit de l'adaptation de la série télévisée d'espionnage des années 60, Des agents très spéciaux, réintitulée pour l'occasion Agents très spéciaux : Code UNCLE et dans laquelle un agent de la CIA et un agent du KGB doivent collaborer en pleine Guerre Froide pour mettre fin aux agissements d'une organisation criminelle internationale. Actuellement, il réalise une nouvelle adaptation de la légende du Roi Arthur dans King Arthur avec Charlie Hunnam dans le rôle-titre. La sortie est d'ores et déjà programmée pour août 2016. Le troisième volet des aventures de Sherlock Holmes est également en préparation.
